History
Kerr studied at Christ’s College in Canterbury from 1978 to 1984 and did a BCom at Otago University.
Early Career
From 1991 to 1996 he worked as an economist and then Head of Investments at New Zealand Funds Management where he managed the NZ Property and Infrastructure Fund. From 1996-2001 he is with Spicers Portfolio Management, owning 35% with Craig Dawson and the rest eventually owned by Sterling Grace Portfolio Management, which is then famously sold to Axa in 2001, netting the pair $32m. In 2001 he becomes chairman of Brook Asset Management until 49% of it was sold to Macquarie Investment Management (NZ) Ltd in 2004. He then starts working closer with John Darby, sets up EPAM, develops property and becomes a director of London based Artefact Partners
PGC
In 2007 he took an interest in Pyne Gould (PGC) for the first time, became a director in August 2008 at which time he was also listed as a director of more than fifty companies by the Companies Office. Kerr sold Equity Parnets Asset Management (EPAM) to PGC in 2009. He subsequently increased his influence on PGC on an annual basis and is currently bidding to take over the company.
